The TRACHMED project is an interdisciplinary, international research initiative focused on tackling the pressing transnational challenges of climate change, migration, and energy insecurity in the Mediterranean. Bringing together a team of researchers, institutions, and policymakers from 12 countries, the project seeks to conduct in-depth field research across the region to collect, analyze, and interpret original data. The findings will inform collaborative solutions, promoting a transnational approach to these interconnected issues. By bridging the gap between academia and decision-makers, TRACHMED aims to support evidence-based policymaking and foster stronger cooperation across the Mediterranean.

In addition to research, the project works to enhance regional cooperation by identifying policy gaps and proposing effective solutions. TRACHMED also focuses on breaking away from fragmented, nation-centered approaches, encouraging a unified, transnational perspective on the challenges facing the Mediterranean. By developing a regional network of researchers and institutions, TRACHMED seeks to increase research capacity, enhance scientific knowledge on climate change, migration, and energy insecurity, and inform EU policies and international decision-makers working on these critical issues.
