The purpose of the SYMBIOSIS’s Child Safeguarding Policy is (1) to ensure that SYMBIOSIS projects, workers, or others working with or on behalf of the SYMBIOSIS do no harm to children, (2) to ensure that safety risks and cases of misconduct are identified, reported, and addressed in an appropriate and timely manner and (3) contribute positively to an environment in which children are safe from harm and abuse, with full adherence of their rights as defined by the convention of the Rights of the Child.
In accordance with the mission and practice of Symbiosis and principles of national and international law and codes of conduct, all Symbiosis staff, including regular full and part time staff, interns, contractors, partner organisations and volunteers are responsible for promoting respect of fundamental human rights, social justice, human dignity and respect for the equal rights of men, women and children. While respecting the dignity and worth of every individual, the Symbiosis staff will treat all persons equally without distinction whatsoever of race, religion, gender, colour, national or ethnic origin, language, sexual orientation, age, socio-economic status, disability, political conviction or any other distinguishing feature.
SYMBIOSIS’s vision is to seek a world of hope, tolerance and social justice; where poverty has been overcome and people live in dignity and security. SYMBIOSIS puts gender equality in the centre because we know that we cannot overcome poverty and social injustice until all people have equal rights and opportunities. We recognize that power relations between genders and ages are unequal, and that we must challenge patriarchy and promote gender equality to achieve social justice. Through this policy, SYMBIOSIS commits to ensuring that gender equality is fully incorporated in all our work both as a universal human right and an end in itself, as well as a means to overcome poverty and social injustice more effectively. Working with others, SYMBIOSIS seeks to promote equal realization of dignity and human rights for all genders and ages, and the elimination of poverty and injustice. This policy will be implemented in the context of local legal environments.
