From 4 to 8 December 2024, the first School on Participatory Democracy in Greece was launched in Athens, bringing together nearly 30 participants representing both public authorities and civil society organisations to deepen their understanding of participatory democracy tools. The School, which is part of a training cycle lasting 8 to 10 months, was implemented by the Council of Europe’s Democratic Institutions and Civil Society Division, in collaboration with the Andreas Papandreou Foundation and the Symbiosis–Council of Europe School of Political Studies in Greece.
Under the theme ‘Έngage Citizens in Local Decision-Making!”, the Athens edition offered a mix of presentations, interactive workshops, case studies, and discussions. The programme introduced participants to key Council of Europe instruments, including the Code of Good Practice for Civil Participation and the Civil Participation in Decision-Making Toolkit, and specific tools such as CivicLab, UChange, Citizens’ Assemblies, Participatory Public Space Planning and DECIDIM.
