Concerns have been raised regarding the critical shortage of interpretation services for asylum seekers in Greece, severely restricting their access to essential rights such as the asylum process and healthcare. The suspension of services by Metadrasi, due to payment delays from the Ministry of Migration and Asylum, has led to a significant decline in available interpreters, particularly in refugee camps. As a result, many asylum seekers face postponed interviews and struggle to communicate effectively with authorities, leaving them in a state of uncertainty. This lack of interpretation support hinders their ability to progress with their claims, while also jeopardizing their access to healthcare, especially for those with urgent medical needs or chronic illnesses. The absence of interpreters further exacerbates their isolation and vulnerability, making it increasingly difficult for them to receive the care they require. Immediate action is needed to restore interpretation services and enhance access to both the asylum procedure and healthcare, as addressing these issues is vital for protecting the rights and well-being of asylum seekers in Greece.
