On Friday, October 20, 2023, Symbiosis – Council of Europe School of Political Studies in Greece organized a seminar in cooperation with the Heraklion Development Agency. The event took place at the Social Space of Kalokairinou Foundations in Heraklion, Crete, within the framework of the European project EMVI: Empowering Migrant Voices on Integration and Inclusion.

The core theme of the seminar, titled ‘Participatory Democracy with Migrants Active Citizens,’ was to underscore the vital importance of migrants’ participation and to empower them to take an active role in society. This event gathered distinguished academics, experts, and representatives from various organizations, institutions, and communities for this important discussion addressing this critical topic.

Decidim: A Platform for Migrant Voices

Decidim emerged as a key topic in the seminar, emphasizing its potential as a tool to enhance migrant participation. The discussions underscored Decidim’s role in empowering migrants to share their ideas, suggestions, and solutions for addressing the unique challenges faced by migrant communities.

Emphasizing the value of the different perspectives and experiences of migrants, the workshop explored ways for their meaningful participation, while underlining the integral role that migrants play in building a more inclusive and equitable society.
